The Reading Foundation for Art is a Registered Charity. It has two aims: to create a collection of significant works of art that are cared for by Reading Museum and to help the Museum to acquire works for its collection. Since its creation in 1974 the Foundation has collected over 120 works of art. There are paintings, drawings, photographs and prints which include works by important Modern British artists such as Paul Nash, Mary Fedden, Julian Trevelyan, Stephen Buckley and Terry Frost.

The Foundation has also contributed towards the acquisition of over 100 works of art in the Museum’s collection by providing vital local money to attract grants from other organisations. Some acquisitions have added depth to the Museum’s extensive collection of local views and works by local artists, others have enhanced the decorative art collections and the strong Modern British Art collection.
