Reading Festival flyer from June 1971

This is an advertising flyer and ticket booking form for the first Reading Festival staged beside the River Thames at Richfield Avenue between Friday 25 June - Sunday 27 June 1971. Performers included Genesis, Lindisfarne and Wishbone Ash.

The Reading Festival originated from an annual Jazz and Blues festival organised by the National Jazz Federation and London's Marquee Club in 1961. The first Reading Festival took place in 1971, when promoter Harold Pendleton staged the event as part of the celebrations marking the 850th anniversary of Reading Abbey’s foundation. By 1980 the festival had established its international reputation for booking the biggest names in rock music.
