Metal - Late nineteenth century
This knife is from Spain. It has a chased blade and metal handle with decoration on the length of the handle, coming to a domed point at the end. It was collected by Dr Joseph Stevens for the Museum.
Joseph Stevens was the first honorary curator of Reading Museum from 1883 to 1898. He had been a doctor at St Mary Bourne, Hampshire, and moved to Reading on his retirement. He gathered items for the Museum from sites around Reading and recorded his work and researches in notebooks, a diary and the early Museum ledgers.
