Thorneycroft Marine Engineering, Caversham, A.R.P. shelters under construction.
The preparations being made by Thorneycroft's Marine Engineering works were featured in the Berkshire Chronicle in August 1939. The five covered shelters under construction would each hold 60 employees and had cost over £1,200. A planning assumption had been made that air raids would not last more than 15 minutes.
