Air Raid Precautions badges being presented to the members of the St John Ambulance Brigade by the Mayor at Reading Town Hall

Badges were presented to Air Raid Precaution wardens so that they were easily identifiable. The Air Raid Precautions (ARP) was set up as a prelude to the Second World War by way of protecting and preparing civillians in the case of an air raid.

This photograph was published in the Berkshire Chronicle on the 3 June 1938.
