The Temperance Procession in Forbury Road passing the Rising Sun pub and Reading Railway Station
The temperance procession passed from King's Meadows through the main streets of the town. It consised of decorated vehicles, children in fancy dress, the Spring Gardens Silver Prize Band, the Salvation Army No.1 Band and the St John's Ambulance Brigade Cadets' Band. The evening events took place in the Town Hall. The 1938 Temperance Queen, Miss Peggy Neal was crowned by the mayoress of Reading, Mrs E. E. Langston. She took the crown from Miss Muriel Kitley who had reigned the previous year.
