Norman Abbey Mill Arches, Reading
Photograph from Reading Chronicle Collection - October 1963
Norman archways at Soundy's Mill on the Holy Brook at Abbey Square in Reading. They were found when Soundy's Mill was demolished to make way for the new Berkshire County Council Offices. Soundy's was the successor to the mill at Reading Abbey. It was noted in the Berkshire Chronicle that every effort would be made to preserve the Abbey Mill arches for the future. You can see them today behind The Blade office block.
This photograph was published in the Berkshire Chronicle on 25 October 1963.
