Reading Conservative and Unionist Association held their Fete and Sports Day at Hill's Meadow, Caversham on Saturday 17 August 1946. The event was organised by a fete committee chaired by Mr E.A. Busby. It was attended by hundreds of visitors. As well as amusements and side shows, there was a display by a local boxing club and Reading Athletic Club organised some athletics events. The 100 yards (just over 91 metres) senior race was won by Mr P.J. Sarney with a time of 10.5 seconds; second was Sergeant D.E. Milton and third was Corporal Cross.
