The majority of biscuits were generic types with identical names that were produced by all the major British manufacturers including Huntley & Palmers and Peek Frean. Only two of the twelve biscuits on this page, from a proof copy of Peek Frean's 1937 catalogue, were registered designs exclusive to the London-based producer. Ginger nuts, one of Huntley & Palmers biggest sellers, were a variety made by all its rivals. Product quality and marketing to build brand loyalty were vital to maintain sales of these biscuit varieties.
