completed for accessibility and SEO

Mr J. H. Perberdy participated in the 'Dig for Victory' campaign.

84 year old, Mr J. H. Perberdy participated in the 'Dig for Victory' campaign. Home food production became more important during the Second World War due to fear that the British public could be starved if there were to be a sea blockage by Germany as much of its food at the time was imported. The government in response to this fear set up the 'Dig for Victory' campaign which encouraged people to turn gardens, parks and other open green spaces into allotments.

This photograph was published in the Berkshire Chronicle on 19 April 1940.
