Huntley & Palmers tin - Globe
1906
Huntley & Palmers biscuit tins were produced by Huntley, Boorne and Stevens. They earned a reputation for their innovative designs. Novelty tins such as 'Globe' were extremely popular. After the biscuits were finished they often became ornaments in homes.
In 1906 Huntley & Palmers biscuits were being exported to Africa, the Americas and the Far East in tins of all shapes and sizes. The countries that formed the British Empire are marked red on the tin. The Empire was crucial to the success of the company, as ingredients like coconuts and cocoa were imported from Barbados and West Africa to Reading.
