Swedish sword guard

11th century copper alloy sword guard

Bronze sword guard from the Saxon palace at Old Windsor, with decoration on both sides. We do not know how this object reached southern England, nor who might have owned it.

This is one of 63 copper alloy objects found during excavations of the site by Brian Hope-Taylor between 1953 and 1958. Others included pins and buckles.
