Coley School Infants, 1911

Reading Museum's social history collection documents people's everyday life and local history from 1700 to the present day, through objects, photographs and sound recordings. Highlights include the unique Victorian copy of the Bayeux Tapestry, and a stunning horse-drawn caravan built by Dunton & Sons of Reading in 1914.

The Huntley & Palmers Collection tells the story of the world-famous biscuit company in biscuit tins, photographs and ephemera, while the Reading Chronicle Collection of over 40,000 negatives, taken by the newspaper between 1938 and 1964, records the changing face of our town. Recent collecting has also focused on Reading's cultural diversity and the iconic Reading Festival.
