Photograph of the bronze statue of Lord Chesham

This black and white photograph shows a bronze statue of Lord Chesham, created by John Tweed in 1907, that stands in Aylesbury Market Place. It was found on the reverse of a mounted photograph of Tweed's statue of Lord Clive.

In 1907 Tweed won a competition, organised by Lord Curzon, for the portrait of Lord Clive. A bronze version of his Clive sculpture was first erected in Gwydr Gardens in London before being moved to the steps of King Charles Street near Horseguards Parade. A marble copy was also sent out to India and erected outside the Victoria Memorial Hall in Kolkata. A plaster copy was given to the Imperial Institute in the 1930s.
